ESPN and The V Foundation for Cancer Research recently announced their year-end initiatives, including the 16th annual V Week for Cancer Research. The initiatives commenced Giving Tuesday on Nov. 29 and will conclude on December 11th. One of the initiatives we are going to highlight today is the My Cause My Cleats initiative. The My Cause My Cleats campaign is now in its seventh season. This annual initiative encourages and empowers players to display their commitment to the causes they support via creative artwork and custom designs on their game cleats. This year, two athletes that have chosen to support the V Foundation with their cleats are Denver Broncos QB Russell Wilson and Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton. Both players will be wearing their respective cleats this weekend, today we share with you a detailed look of what they’re rocking on the field.
Russell Wilson became a V Foundation board member with wife Ciara in June 2022. The Broncos QB will wear cleats dedicated to those affected by cancer, which includes close friend and business partner Trevor Moawad who sadly passed away from cancer last year. The cleats have V Foundation and Why Not You Foundation — a non-profit Wilson founded in 2014 — messaging on them.
Nick Bolton will be wearing mismatched cleats where one comes dressed in Pink and the other opts for a Grey motif. The Pink and Grey is meant to represent breast and brain cancer. Bolton’s mother and sister are both survivors, so each cleat will have their name and the date they declared Victory Over Cancer. His mother, Jalunda, battled breast cancer and was declared cancer free on 12/2/15, while his sister, Jaz, battled brain cancer and was declared cancer free on 3/10/10.
Additionally, the cleats of both players will be auctioned off following the game with funds raised benefiting cancer research.
