Nike is honoring the greatest WNBA team in history with this Nike Air Force 1 Low which pays homage to the Houston Comets. If you weren’t familiar, the Houston Comets were one of the original eight WNBA teams and won the league’s first four championships behind the Big Three of Cynthia Cooper, Sheryl Swoopes and Tina Thompson. They are one of two teams in the WNBA that are undefeated in the WNBA Finals; the Seattle Storm are the other. The Comets were the first dynasty of the WNBA and are tied with the Minnesota Lynx and Seattle Storm for the most championships of any WNBA franchise. The team was folded and disbanded by the league in 2008 during the height of the Great Recession because new ownership could not be found.
The Nike Air Force 1 Low “Houston Comets” gets covered in the team’s colors as the sneaker features a White leather construction all over the upper with Obsidian, University Red, and Wolf Grey accents. Design highlights include satin-like Swooshes and heel tabs, the four championship years embroidered on the heel tabs in red, and a four-finger motif embroidered onto the lateral ankle in Silver to celebrate the historical four-peat. You can expect this Nike Air Force 1 Low to release in women’s sizing in the coming weeks for $110.
