Churchill Downs and Factory8384 are excited to bring to you the Kentucky Derby Legends of the Derby Collection. This limited-edition sneaker collection features thirteen bespoke and customized Nike Air Force 1 Lows that pay homage to a highly exclusive and illustrious group of Triple Crown winners. Fun fact: Only thirteen horses have achieved Triple Crown status in horse racing history, and this collection not only immortalizes the legacy of past Kentucky Derby champions, but also aims to bring the excitement of horse racing to an even wider audience.

The Legends of the Derby collection is inspired by the jockey silks of the Triple Crown winners. Shown below, each sneaker is handcrafted using premium materials. The full collection of thirteen sneakers will be on display at Churchill Downs Racetrack from May 4th through May 6th for the 149th Kentucky Derby. Additionally, each of the pairs on display at the racetrack will be available for individual purchase via silent auction throughout the weekend – exclusive to in-person attendees of Thurby, Kentucky Oaks, and The Kentucky Derby. The winning bidder of each shoe will receive a made-to-order pair in their chosen size – a coveted offering that’s synonymous with the sophistication of the sport and a unique one-of-a-kind addition to any shoe connoisseur’s closet. A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Secretariat Foundation.

At the conclusion of the Kentucky Derby, three pairs from the display collection will be auctioned off as a collector’s set through Sotheby’s (the date of which is to be announced), while the remaining ten will be donated to the Kentucky Derby Museum, serving as a permanent exhibition to honor and commemorate the tradition, history, and pride of this world-renowned event.

This entire project was conceived and designed by Factory8384, a high-end sneaker customization studio based in Los Angeles, whose co-founder Curtis Brown has a profound connection to the enthralling world of thoroughbred horse racing. The inspiration for “Legends of the Derby” comes from a deeply personal place for Brown, who wanted to honor his late father Louis “Tige” Brown, a lifelong racing enthusiast. The collection was designed in the spirit of preserving their cherished memories spent as a family at the racetrack, and in particular a trip to Louisville, Kentucky in 2015 where Brown and his younger brother got to experience the energy of the Kentucky Derby firsthand.

In Nike news, the Nike Dunk Low WMNS UNLV Satin debuts tomorrow.
